WHERE IT ALL STARTED

The Ehlerskroon Bonsmara Stud was founded in 1974 on rec - ommendation of Professor Johan Grosskopf. Initial breeding stock was purchased from leading producers such as, Bristow, Robert Taute, Koos van Amstel, Amfarms, Dr Badenhorst as well as the former national breeding herd. For us, genetics is everything. In order to broaden our genetic pool we also purchased some herd sires from Up George, Benchmark, Dr D Nolte, Dr Hartsenburg, Marloo Bonsmaras, Hennie Naude, Sernick, Kalkveld Bonsmaras, Le Fre Bonsmaras, Leehan Bonsmaras and Beneke Bonsmaras. The success of a Bonsmara herd is derived from the number of weaners as well as their weaning weights. Therefore, since 1974 we are meticulously keeping detailed records of our wean - ers’ milk, fertility and growth. The BLUP breeding values speaks for itself. The Ehlerskroon Stud was and is a driving force to be reckoned with in all the major breeding categories and we have always performed bet - ter than the national herd breed average.
